Low Level Laser Therapy
Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) was brought to the United States from Europe after scientists used it to experiment with skin cancer in mice and doctors used it to inhibit blood flow for expedited healing in amputees. One thing that both noticed was that the shaved area of the hair grew faster than the areas that were not receiving the LLLT. Naturally the hair loss industry saw a possible benefit.
Possible Benefits Of Laser Hair Therapy, Include:
> Increases Blood Supply To A Client’s Scalp
> Can lessen Irritating Scalp Conditions
> Can prolong The Life Of Clients’ Hair Color & Perms
> May Improve The Quality Of Hair Shafts
> Could stimulate Hair Regrowth
> Stops Hair Loss In Many Clients
LLLT has shown to be quite effective in some albeit less in others. It is a great way to possibly prolong your hair loss and thicken the hair shaft you have to give the appearance of fuller hair. The benefits must be weighed of course. Once or twice a week in the office for hair treatments can be a test of will especially when it will take 3 to 4 months to be able to make a determination if the benefits are worth it to the individual.
There are hand held LLLT devices that can be effective at home to lessen the frequency you have to visit the office. It will have to be done daily at that point as the level of laser magnification and coverage is much less with a handheld. If you are willing to spend the time and be patient then LLLT could be just the trick for now to keep your hair thicker a little longer.
While it has shown to be effective in a good percentage of those who have done a full regimen with thickening their hair, the stimulation of new quality growth is much less successful. Laser is a ‘get in early and stay at it’ solution when it works right but a viable and beneficial solution to those who are slowly losing their hair.
The biggest inhibitor we’ve seen personally is that the thicker and denser the hair, the less laser light can get to the scalp. So it will never give a full thick head of hair. Laser brushes/combs do not have the intensity to do this. The older we get the more a ‘natural thinning’ looks normal so for those people laser may be just the key to keeping what they have.
